Команда подобралась в конце 1971 года и получила название Wings. Оригинальный состав Wings включал Пола и Линду Маккартни, гитариста Денни Лейна (Denny Laine), игравшего до этого в Moody Blues, и барабанщика Денни Сейвелла (Denny Seiwell). Первый альбом группы «Wild Life» вышел в декабре 1971 года. В 1972 году в Англии вышли три новых сингла: песня протеста «Give Ireland Back to the Irish» (запрещенная к трансляции на ВВС), навеянный реггей «Mary Had a Little Lamb» и рок-трек «Hi Hi Hi» (тоже эфирный отверженец ВВС - за вызывающее упоминание секса и наркотиков).
